Winning Hearts and Elevating Spirits Thursday,
October 23, 2008 Event History: In 1980, Walter Knott became the first recipient of a Goodwill of Orange County service award created to honor those in the community who inspire others by overcoming barriers or by serving as an advocate for people with disabilities. Walter Knott, although primarily known for his reputation as a successful businessman and founder of Knott’s Berry Farm, also exemplified a truly humanitarian spirit and spent much of his time serving as a philanthropic leader in the community. Considered an integral part and important individual in the history and development of Orange County, Goodwill is proud to honor other individuals and organizations who almost 30 years later continue to carry on Walter Knott’s tradition of winning hearts and elevating spirits. Proceeds from the Walter Knott Award Luncheon benefit: Proceeds from this event will support Goodwill's education, training and employment services that help people with disabilities get the training they need to be successful at home, school and work. The mission of Goodwill Industries of Orange County is to provide people with disabilities and other barriers opportunities to achieve their highest levels of personal and economic independence. |
